This year’s Summer Gathering was held at the delightful Michelham Priory located in East Sussex near Hailsham. A glorious hot sunny day welcomed members for the event held on the lawn to the rear of the Priory, which gave a lovely backdrop to one side, all within the moated garden.
The Gathering was supported by a wide range of close to 50 MG models ranging from T Types through to the latest MGTF. One very interesting car was a lovely 1937 MGSA Charlesworth Tourer owned by Gary Peacock and this was awarded car of show. Amongst the MG’s on display were a delightful pair of ZA and ZB Magnettes owned by members from Abingdon Centre who had travelled to the event on the day. The event somewhat unusually attracted 3 supercharged T Types and was even visited by a South African member visiting the UK on holiday.
The competitive element was the Concours and Pride of Ownership. Only one car entered the Concours, Richard Thorpe with his lovely yellow ZR. Seven MG’s entered the Pride of Ownership ranging from TD’s through to MGF and RV8. Results were:
Car of the Show | Gary Peacock | SA Charlesworth tourer |
Concours | Richard Thorpe | ZR |
Pride of Ownership | 1st Karl Foot | RV8 |
2nd Bob Willett | MGF | |
3rd John Brinkhurst | TD | |
4th Vivian Parkin | Midget | |
5th Peter Parker | TD | |
6th Simon Gray | TD MkII | |
Also Richard Clark | TF |
NOTE:- After checking to scores, Karl Foot turns out to be the winner)
To complement the MG event, the Priory was available for visits with its fascinating historic interior, Blacksmith giving smithy demonstrations, pretty colourful gardens and country walks along the moat and refreshments in the adjacent café.
