At our last Virtual Meeting, the Committee took the sad decision to cancel or postpone all organised meetings and events until the end of August at the earliest. Due to the current restrictions aimed at slowing the spread of coronavirus, pubs remain closed and Natters and Wanderer Groups cannot function in the normal way. We must be careful to stick to the changing Government guidelines and remember that most of our members are part of the “vulnerable age group”.
On the bright side: When medical advice permits, restrictions are gradually being lifted.We still have our MGs and live in the beautiful South East of England which is dotted with many village greens suitable for small picnics! The rules are clear – you can now enjoy your MG and the outdoors in a small group of no more than 6 people at 2 metre social spacing, provided that you avoid sharing food or cutlery etc. and go to the loo before you leave home! (Our Safety Fast scribes would be delighted receive any photos with suitable captions for use in one of our publications later).
Also on the bright side: Philip Bayne-Powell has agreed to re-schedule his “Tour of the South East Windmills” as a special event on our 2021 calendar. He has also invited all members that can read an Ordnance Survey map to join him for a “Table Top Rally” on 12th July – more details are given below.
In addition, many Natter and Wanderer leaders continue to organise Zoom meetings, virtual rallies, photo competitions and send out their own newsletters. There is still a lot that you can do quite apart from looking after your MG and keeping safe.
I took this photo in my back garden on my phone at the end of last month.It clearly shows one of our MGs wearing suitable PPE and a charity Rally Plaque supporting the NHS (made by the Dragonfly company for a £10 donation).
