PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED
After the gentle and somewhat confusing easing of Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, we are starting to utilise our MGs more and attend events again, albeit under some new and different restrictions to keep us all safe.
Naviscats are a great step up from the well-known Treasure Hunts. They require the knowledge of how to plot a 6-figure map reference, using a romer or similar to locate places on the map to answer various clues.
This event will be organised using a 1:50,000 scale Ordnance Survey Landranger map No. 189 “Ashford & The Romney Marsh”, a recent edition of this map plus pens, coloured markers and a free romer will be
required. Help is always available for beginners.
The event will start and finish at The Wagon & Horses PH, Faversham Road, Charing, Kent TN27 0NR, map reference 981512. Signing on will be from 10.0am to 10.45am with light refreshments. Briefing and Final Instructions will be handed out at 11.0am followed by 3½ hours to collect answers before finishing back at The Wagon & Horses at 2.30pm for a well deserved choice of Sunday Roast etc.
There will be a few changes and updates from previous events of this type, due partly to Covid-19 advice and updates from MSUK.
Once the clue locations have been plotted, each crew make up their own mind as to which route to take to collect the most points. These points are shown on the question sheets for every clue that you can answer if you arrive at the correct location. (e.g. How many bolts on the gate? or Name the vicar! Etc.) The more difficult the location and/or question determines the score which can range from 1 to 3 points. More experienced competitors will try to find the high scoring answers. Two and three point clues have a suitable area to park nearby because you have to get out of the car to find the answer. If you are a novice it is probably better to visit the one point “drive-by” locations. There is always a prize for the best novice to encourage new competitors! Please note that it physically impossible to visit every location in the time allowed and that only your best 30 answers will be accepted under the rules.
We are combining this event with a round of the Inter-Register Club’s championship, with members of the Blackpalfrey Motor Club and the Ashford (Kent) Motor Club which should produce an interesting range of
vehicles to add diversity to the event.
Entries must be members of one of the defined affiliated clubs, have a MotorSport UK RS Clubman’s Licence and appropriate car insurance. The Clubman’s licence is easy to apply for and is free of charge – apply at this link to Motorsport UK https://rsclubman.motorsportuk.org/
We look forward to seeing old friends and newcomers alike for an interesting and safe day out.
