2021 has seen a return to enjoying your MG as they are meant to be – out and about in the countryside simply having fun. The Centre has provided many opportunities for you to do that and were one of the first to organise events for members in the whole of the MG Car Club. All done within the limits of Covid-19 and under MotorsportUK rules. That meant a bit more paperwork and not quite as much socialising as you may have hoped for but at least we were out and about again.
The natter and wanderers groups all shook off the cobwebs and became active again organising in person pub meets and local runs. Zoom, though was a boon throughout the restrictions and enabled most of our groups to remain in touch, we even held some Google treasure hunts and rallies to keep keep the spirit of competition alive within the Centre. I wonder if we’ll have to return to Zoom again with the onward march of Omicron, we’ll probably know in a few days time. Let us hope, at least, that when the warmer weather reappears in Spring we can put this latest surge behind us and get out once again.
Let us remember those who have suffered from illness during the pandemic and commiserate with the families of the members who have sadly passed away. Be assured that the South East Centre will always comply with all rules and guidelines relating to the Coronavirus when organsing events and meetings to keep you as safe as possible.
It has been a good end of season for the club, despite the changes which occurred earlier in the year, and we hope that the main club is now on a firmer footing to enter 2022.
Here in the South East Centre we continue to strive to bring you a varied events programme and we’ll be re-introducing some more competitive events that you can take part in with your MG without the need for a racing licence as well as enjoying the day runs and visits to country houses. So, please support your local natter or wanderer group and join in the larger scale events within the region. You can find details of the natter/wanderers groups and a provisional 2022 events list on this website.
The whole committee and all the group leaders have worked tirelessly in difficult circumstances to keep the Centre running successfully and I am sure you would like to join me in thanking them all for their extraordinary hard work throughout the year.
Let us hope that 2022 will prove to be a better year and I look forward to meeting you out and about at events throughout the year having fun with your MGs.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.
Tim Morris, Chairman MG Car Club South East Centre.
