New Committee for 2025/6

The 2025 AGM was held at St Nicholas Youth Centre in Godstone and despite the national publicity on the recently collapsed Godstone Sinkhole still attracted a good turn out of members. In fact it had no effect at all other than a short diversion down the A22 and back for those coming from the M25 direction. Luckily it was not on the route to the Bletchingley Arms where some of the committee and guests retired to afterwards.

The meeting commenced with an introduction from Tim Morris, the Chairman, referring to an email that Will Opie had sent just the night before of a 1966 MGCCSE Newsletter. Burning the midnight oil on Friday night that was ready by Saturday morning. It was interesting to remind ourselves that the South East is a very historic centre and at that time covered East Anglia, the Thames Valley and Hampshire with matters as far afield as Woodstock and Norwich. Gordon Cobban , the secretary at the time, upon winning the Nuffield Gold cup which is awarded for “the most meritous growth, Enterprise and enthusiasm” within the MG Car Club that that may be the wrong way around. It should be “without enterprise and enthusiasm the centre would have little chance of growth”. That is true and with a committed and enthusiastic committee and natter groups there is no reason that the Centre shouldn’t grow. In fact there are indications that Membership in the South East is beginning to rise again, albeit slowly.
